Frankly speaking, reading during this time has been a very different and difficult due to various issues such as lack on concentration, anxiety and so on. However I did manage to read quite a few books and I decided to put some of my favourite Quarantine reads together. The reason why they qualify into this category is because they're uplifting, lively, and full of hope-just what we need the most during these challenging times.(plz note there are a few that I've read before the lock down, but because they're capable of lifting up ones mood I decided to put them up on the list!)

*Due to some technical difficulties not all the review links could be added,so plz find them on my blog and/or on my instagram page *

BOOK REVIEW - A TRYST WITH TRISTAN BY PRANAV RAO

SUMMARY:

A tryst with Tristan is a story of a guy trying to find love in the lap of lust. Tristan, a not so regular guy in a regular fast paced city life, has conflicts with his emotions quite often. He finds solace in Hailey, his confidant and closest friend, who tries to help him bring balance in his life. After getting his heart broken, Tristan embarks on his journey with a firm belief to never get cheated on again and to find true everlasting love. Will he find what he is looking for or is he destined for a lifetime of lustful dalliances?(sic)

OVERVIEW : Tryst with tristian by pranav rao is a story of a young boy named Tristian, who tries to find true love in relationships that may be based solely on lust.

The cover of the book is artistically designed, portraying the character and the theme of the book in a right way.

The writing style of the author was good, but the parts of the plot often seem repetitive and hence at some point the story turns boring.

The narration though, was good and engaging to a good amount of time.

The characters required more developments, by means of their personality and ability to connect with the reader.

The storyline has themes of love, lust, chaos and relationships woven in the story.

Overall, this was a good read. The structure of the storys plot and the characters to some extent required improvements.
This book shall cater more to the need of people, enjoying the erotica genre.

MY RATING: 3.8/5

BOOK REVIEW: EVERY FRAME IS A PAINTING

Title: EVERY FRAME IS A PAINTING
PUBLICATIONS: NOVEL NUGGETS
GENRE: PLAY/ SHORT STORY/ POETRY

SYNOPSIS:

In this anthology, you will find genres of Comedy, Drama, Psychological, Social, War and Thriller. Some of the intriguing plots for short stories have a non-linear structure which keeps the plot moving and simultaneously to build up for the final moment of the story.

The psychological drama where the protagonist expresses the guilt or their negative thought about society with a sudden twist of macabre feel.

The thriller genre with its initial set-up, conflict and resolution and it is a fun read.

The poems are written on the context of a youth’s point of view of the world towards society, suffering, unemployment and his frustration. He cries as he wants equality in the system, he wants to help everyone but unfortunately he is unable to do that.

OVERVIEW:

Every frame is a painting  is a collection of eight plays, poems and short stories each. The plays have some captivating  topics like our day to day office issues, college, comedy, doing our morning chores and much more.

I had a good time reading this book, its short  crisp and to the point.

I loved all the poems because they encapsulate so many topics ranging from love to patriotism. I could deeply connect with all of them. The short stories were average, some were mediocre and I couldn't really feel their dept. So the short stories required improvements. The plays were easy going and quick to be understood due to a flair in the authors writing style and a smooth narration.

The characters were well developed in most of the plays, the poems were structured well, the plot of the short stories can be improved.

Overall, this was a simple and easy going read, would recommend this if you're looking for some light breezy reads.

Inklings is A collection of poetries and musings related to various life aspects.
The cover is designed beautifully and  the title couldn't be more appropriate with the content inside.

I felt an instant connection with the author as I started reading the book.

I absolutely loved the way the author has crafted and presented every poem, every emotion is presented beautifully.

I could connect with most of the poetries.
I liked the author’s choice of words.

The only part wherein this book disappointed me a bit was the length.  There are few poems in this book, i really wanted more of them!

Overall this was a very interesting and a pleasant poetry read.

 Definitely recommended.

My Rating: 4.5/5🌟

GIRL IN WHITE COTTON BY AVNI DOSHI - BOOK REVIEW

TITLE : GIRL IN WHITE COTTON
AUTHOR : AVNI DOSHI
LENGTH: 297
PUBLICATIONS: 4TH ESTATE BOOKS (IMPRINT OF HARPERCOLLINS BOOKS)
GENRE: CONTEMPORARY

SYNOPSIS:
Antara has never understood her mother Tara's decisions - walking out on her marriage to follow a guru, living on the streets like a beggar, shacking up with an unknown artist, rebelling against society's expectations ... But when Tara starts losing her memory, Antara searches for a way to make peace with their shared past, a past that haunts them both. As she relives her childhood in Pune in the eighties, Catholic boarding school in the hills of Maharashtra, and her years as a young artist in Bombay, Antara comes up against her own fears and neuroses, realizing she might not be so different from Tara after all. Girl in White Cotton is a journey into shifting memories, altering identities and the subjective nature of truth. Tracing the fragile line between familial devotion and deception, Avni Doshi's mesmerizing first novel will surprise and unsettle you.(sic)

OVERVIEW/ MY OPINION :

Girl in white cotton by avni doshi is a contemporary novel revolving around the life of Antara and her mother who is recently diagnosed with a disease that causes her to forget things about her life and dive into completely different worlds. But amidst it all they both have a very rough and a dark past that they are hiding from the world. Pick this up to find put how antaras quest to help her mother improve her health compels her to unravel their past and open up about her, witness a strange journey of Antara from fighting her battles and keeping up with the demons of their horrific and bizarre past, in this book.

I had a strange time surfing through this story,

The concept was very fresh and well executed.

The writing style was good and descriptive.

The narration is commendable, the story is narrated from antaras perspective, it also gives the reader a feel of reading a kind of a psychological novel, this is very rare and I hardly find this adaptation done by  debut authors.

The plot was a mixture of flashback, parallel and  chronological. The author still managed to keep a good hold over it.

The storyline was a mixture of themes related to family ties, societal pressure, superstitions, tennage problems, strangled relationships and a lot more. It's hard to believe that it's a debut novel.

The cover is beautiful and the title is pretty innovative.

The characterization is amazing, antaras character is very well developed, though I couldn't connect with her due to her strange ideologies  I did sympathise for her most of the time and even hated her at times, it's very rare that you hate a character and still marvel over the magic of its characterization.  A good information over Tara and Dilips character is provided in the story.

Talking about the storys pace, it's pretty slow paced however towards the end some scenes were quite sudden and rushed.

If you ask me to summarise this story in 1 word I'd say it's "HAUNTING" it's actually a story that will haunt you even after you've finished it.

I'd recommend this book if you like reading books based on the above mentioned themes.

MY RATING : 4/5
